摘要

A just-passed House bill giving EPA authority under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to regulate formaldehyde emissions from wood products is prompting renewed concerns from House Republicans over the bill's expansion of EPA authority to regulate consumer products - an issue of emerging concern in broader TSCA reform efforts.rnThe House passed the formaldehyde bill, S. 1660, by voice vote June 23, sending the legislation to President Obama for his signature because the Senate June 14 passed an identical measure by unanimous consent. The bill would require EPA to issue no later than July 1, 2012, regulations that would adopt nationwide an existing California rule to cut formaldehyde emissions from wood products manufactured or sold in the United States.
