A bipartisan group of senators is pushing legislation to extend the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) current chemical facility security rules by five years, warning that a competing House bill to strengthen chemical security programs as DHS and EPA would impose costly burdens on the economy.rnSens. Susan Collins (R-ME), George Voinovich (R-OH), Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) Feb. 4 introduced S. 2996, a bill to extend for five years DHS' Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) that the department issued in 2007. The program was reauthorized for an additional year in the FY10 interior spending bill.
