EPA Region VI Reviewing First Two Texas GHG Permit Applications

EPA Region VI officials are reviewing applications for the first two greenhouse gas (GHG) permits in Texas, where the state has refused to implement GHG rules forcing the agency to take over permitting authority for major source GHG permits after those rules took effect earlier this year. When EPA issues draft permits for the facilities - a natural gas-fired power plant operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority and a chemical facility operated by BASF FINA Petrochemicals - they will be closely watched because they will be the first to be issued directly by EPA, rather than by states with EPA input.
