EPA Urging Regions To Get Tough On PRPs' Cleanup Site Documentation

EPA is urging its regional offices to clamp down on potentially responsible parties (PRPs) who submit deficient reports and other so-called deliverables during hazardous waste cleanups, a move that follows the agency's overhaul of its Superfund compliance tracking system to better identify compliance problems. Elliott J. Gilberg, the director of the Office of Site Remediation Enforcement, sent a memo to regional Superfund officials earlier this year urging them to unilaterally change language in PRP-submitted reports and cleanup plans when PRPs are unresponsive in addressing agency concerns, to cut delays in site cleanups.
