House GOP Eyes FY14 Bill To Push Overhaul Of EPA Data Review Process

House Republicans are floating draft fiscal year 2014 spending bill report language that calls for a major overhaul of EPA's scientific data review process, including crafting a report on the agency's procedures for selecting peer reviewers and adopting a slew of National Academy of Sciences recommendations for improving EPA risk assessments. The recommendations are outlined in recently released non-binding report language accompanying the pending EPA FY14 appropriations bill in the lower chamber. Other provisions recommend various policy changes or restrictions, including barring new federal hydraulic fracturing rules until EPA completes its massive tracking study; issuing rules to protect pollinators; and justifying the House's proposal to significantly cut water infrastructure funds.
