House and Senate appropriators have approved the Energy Department's (DOE) request to shift money within the department's fiscal year 2013 defense cleanup budget, as well as move funds from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), to mitigate the effects of sequestration on high-priority nuclear cleanup efforts. The House Appropriations Committee approved the request May 15 following a verbal approval from the Senate Appropriations energy and water development subcommittee earlier this month. The approval came without conditions or changes, according to spokespersons for both committees.
