EPA's Superfund office has released the agency's first assessment of the potential environmental justice impacts of a cleanup plan for a contaminated site in Washington state, a document that recommends regulators find ways to provide local subsistence fishermen with uncontaminated fish because the proposed cleanup plan may not sufficiently reduce their risks. Such assessments are "starting to happen," Matthew Tejada, the new director of EPA's environmental justice office, told the agency's children's health advisors April 18.
