摘要

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) has adopted what appears to be the strictest permanent measure yet in the country to protect against cardiac birth defects from short-term exposures to trichloroeth-ylene (TCE), calling for the relocation of women of child-bearing age from residences if TCE levels in indoor air reach a level EPA set in 2011 to protect against non-cancer health effects over a lifetime of exposure. The new measure DES announced in a Feb. 7 memo is stricter than levels several EPA regions have enacted over the last year since EPA's Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment for TCE linked short-term exposures to TCE to a risk of cardiac birth defects but did not set a limit to protect against non-cancer risks from short-term exposures.
