As UARG Appears To Implode, Some Question Where Utilities Land

As a growing number of utilities drop their membership in the Utility Air Regulatory Group (UARG), the high-profile coalition that led numerous challenges to EPA rules, many observers are asking whether another group will step in to provide similar legal representation or whether such a group is still needed given the industry's decreasing use of coal. "There is no talk of a new group or firm, at least not on our end. We'll continue to handle each issue on a case-by-case basis," says a spokeswoman for Duke Energy, one of the companies that has left UARG. Such defections were sparked by a leak in February of the group's private membership list and the dues each member paid in 2017.
