Bringing in gas from the south

The bassgas project in southeastern Victoria will bring the first alternate gas supply into southeastern Australia since the Gippsland gas fields were developed over 30 years ago. The project will commercialise natural gas, LP gas and condensate from the Yolla field, located 147km from Kilcunda in Bass Strait. The gas from the field will meet 10% of Victorian gas demand for 15 years. The project is a joint venture partnership between Origin Energy as operator (37.5%), AWE (30.0%), CalEnergy (20.0%) and Wandoo Petroleum (12.5%). Clough Engineering Limited was appointed by the joint venture as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project. The annual contract quantity for gas is 20PJ, which represents a daily production rate of 54.8TJ. The projected annual condensate sales volume is 1.25 mega barrels. The LP gas production from the facilities will be 80kt/a. The sales gas will be fed into the Victorian Principal Gas Transmission Pipeline near Pakenham. The condensate will be trucked from the BassGas processing plant to the Shell Refinery in Geelong and the LP gas to a distribution centre in Dandenong.
