How do you select a good mentor? Mostly it's about relationships. The better mentor/mentee relationships develop naturally, the persons involved aren't pushed together, rather fall into synch naturally. One of the keys to the relationship is to ensure that it's based on respect and a mutual belief that supports an individuals learning and career growth. What makes a good mentor? Someone who is available, patient and a nurturer, yet is wise and knowledgeable (this need not be age-specific but you need a person who is experienced enough). A person who is able to share, be loyal, honest and trustworthy. They also need to be a good communicator and great listener, and a person who is able to provide positive and constructive feedback. A commitment to developing others to be the best they can be is also needed.
