Generator upgrade at Loy Yang powerstation

The number one generator at Loy Yang powerstation in Victoria's Latrobe Valley was recently upgraded to higher standards of reliability with appropriate protection, control and metering equipment. The powerstation has a capacity of 2100MW from its four 500MW (name-plate rated) turbo-generators, which are between 16 and 20 years old. The project was carried out by electrical engineering contractor Uniserve Pty Ltd for the private power generating utility Loy Yang Power, which operates the powerstation and the adjacent Loy Yang coal mine. Loy Yang, Victoria's largest electricity producer, supplies one third of the state's power requirements.
