The ancient African word "Ubuntu" means both "humanity to others" and "I am what I am because of who we all are". "Ubuntu" is the force behind the South African miracle. The miracle isn't just that the black majority in 1994, through peaceful means with the support of the international community, won the right to vote and elected Nelson Mandela as their first black president. The South African miracle certainly isn't the vast number of people living in poverty or dying of AIDS. The South African miracle is a triumph of spirit.
