摘要

Dr Howard Harrison, formerly associate professor in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney, died on 14 November 2005. A staff member in that school for 36 years, he was the person primarily responsible for introducing computer methods into the course and for running the computer laboratory. There are few people who have had a greater influence on the introduction of computer methods into structural analysis and design in this country. Harrison was born in Goulburn in 1930, the son of John Harrison and Agnes Groves. His father was also a civil engineer whose career was in local government engineering; and his paternal grandfather, Howard Harrison, was the person responsible for providing electric lighting to the city of Tamworth, NSW, in 1888, the first city to be so illuminated in Australia.
