Engineers In Politics With Mixed Success

Having engineers in leading government positions could result in better longterm planning for a country. But at the same time it could lead to undemocratic decision-making, corruption or a failure to accommodate opposing views, as is the case in China.These points were made in a recent article "Ruled by engineers" in issue 17 of Engineering & Technology (E&T) magazine, which quoted the 21st Graham Clark lecture given by Alan Cottrell, a British metallurgist and physicist. E&T is the magazine of the Institution of Engineering and Technology in the UK.
