Solar Efficiency Record Set At 25%

A revision of standards has meant that a silicon solar cell designed by the University of New South Wales' ARC Photovoltaic Centre of Excellence has achieved 25% efficiency, setting a new world record.rnThe cell had previously held the world record of 24.7% for silicon solar cell efficiency as measured by the international standard of the International Electrochemical Commission. But a recalibration of standards last April created conditions which allowed the cell to respond more favourably, nudging its efficiency to 25%.
