Wind a winner in energy security

The biggest growth in renewable energy in the next decade will come from wind and solar thermal generators, according to John Chapman, the general manager for NSW of Siemens. Speaking at a seminar on energy security on 17 September in Sydney, he said the main energy contributor replacing electricity from coal-fired powerstations will be wind, supported by new solar-thermal installations based on technology already in use in California, with the balance of required energy being provided from combined cycle units. He predicted that hydro-power will remain static.
