Gas-fired powerstation planned

Oil and gas company Santos is carrying out begin front end engineering design studies for the Shaw River powerstation near Orford in Victoria. With an estimated cost of $800 million, the first phase of the proposed 500MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) powerstation would be expandable to a three-CCGT nominal 1500MW plant supplying power to the eastern Australian energy grid. The proposed powerstation would be built adjacent to the existing Moorabool to Heywood 500kV high voltage transmission line. Natural gas would be supplied from Santos' gas resources using a new 105km underground pipeline from near Port Campbell. The project remains subject to regulatory and internal corporate approvals.
