The NSW government is looking to appoint a practicing engineer or scientist to the newly-created position of chief scientist and "scientific engineer". The role entails promoting science and scientific education, advising government on science and innovation policy, linking the government with research groups and universities, and "advancing NSW interests" in the federal government's innovation review. The government will also appoint a Ministerial Advisory Council for Science, Engineering and Medical Research. A spokesperson said the government will decide on a candidate after consulting industry bodies, experts and universities.
