Greater recognition of engineering achieved

WFEO has made a significant step forward on behalf of the engineering profession in its relationship with UNESCO, which is the organisation that encouraged the formation of WFEO in 1968. The 181st Session of the UNESCO Executive Board, held in April, considered the relationship the organisation has with NGOs and approved WFEO entering into a specific framework agreement with UNESCO, opening up significantly closer cooperation. The expectation is that, by having a greater recognition of the role engineers can play complementary to UNESCO's long-standing science emphasis, most of the current world issues can be more effectively addressed.
