Concept design for floating desalination plant

A unique floating desalination concept design has been developed by BMT Design & Technology. As desalination plants become increasingly common, there are still fears that the environmental impact caused by large land-based plants outweighs the benefits. BMT Design & Technology has been working towards an offshore solution. The company has conducted technical and commercial studies into the integration of a desalination plant on a semi-permanent offshore facility, such as a retired bulk carrier. The concept is scalable with water production upwards of 150ML/d possible. Given the mobile nature of the design, the vessel would be able to respond to natural disasters or other severe water shortages around the globe.
