Adjusting to life without a 'proper job'

A number of people I know (among them engineers and managing directors) have recently down-scaled. All of them have been through a period of adjustment. It isn't that they have less to do, in fact some seem to be busier than ever. For them the challenges are around structure, income, status and support.rnWhen someone asks us what we do, we feel validated when we can say, "I am an engineer" or "I am the leader of an organisation". A moniker gives us a place in the world. It helps people position us and know how to treat us.
