Fukushima demonstrated safety of nuclear power

I believe it will eventually be understood that events since 11 March at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power station in northeastern Japan have demonstrated the safety of nuclear power. The reactor containments appear to have been effective. Releases of radioactivity outside the site boundary have reached levels at which emergency measures had to be implemented but these are well below levels that would be dangerous. There have been many deaths and injuries caused by the earthquake and tsunami but no deaths attributable to radiation, and none were likely to occur even in a worst case scenario. More than 200 workers at the nuclear power stations have been and are being checked for radiation exposure. An increasing number of them have received doses in the range 100mSv to 180mSv (a dose of around 20mSv could be incurred from a CT scan).
