Western Highway

The Western Highway is the principal road link between Melbourne and Adelaide and serves most interstate trade between Victoria and South Australia. It is the key transport corridor through Victoria's western district, supporting farming, regional tourism, grain production and a range of manufacturing and service activities. In order to improve the Western Highway's safety and efficiency, it is progressively being upgraded to a four-lane divided highway between Ballarat and Stawell, roughly 110km. This may involve constructing two new traffic lanes adjacent to the existing highway or constructing sections of a new four-lane divided highway on a new alignment.
