Report claims Origin Energy blocking renewables

Greenpeace and 100% Renewable Energy (a community based renewable energy lobby) have released a report claiming that Origin Energy is blocking renewable energy investment. Called Strangling Renewables: Origin Energy's Campaign Against Renewable Energy, the report claims that the utility is undermining renewable energy because of its own approximately $24.7 billion investment in the gas power generation industry. The report claims that this investment is threatened by community opposition to coal seam gas, the rapid rollout of solar photovoltaic power and domestic solar installations which results in reduced demand for Origin Energy's services. Further, increasing small scale wind and solar has reduced wholesale power prices which has lowered the profitability of gas power generation.
