Chemeca highlights role of chemical engineers

The annnual Chemeca event, jointly hosted by Engineers Australia, Engineers New Zealand, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK), and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute which represents chemists in Australia, was held last month. The keynote speakers were Judith Hackitt, head of the UK's health and safety executive and president of IChemE, and Dr Marlene Kanga, a chemical engineer and national president of Engineers Australia. Kanga said the 2013 conference illustrated the gender diversity of the chemical engineering profession with the two keynotes and the conference chair, Kathv Hirschfeld, being women.
