The righting of the Costa Concordia

The operation to return the stricken Costa Concordia to an upright position drew worldwide attention last month. Contracted companies US-based Titan Salvage and Italian offshore contractor Micoperi are carrying out the salvage of the vessel, which is 300m long and has a gross tonnage of over 11,400, for an approximate cost of €600 million. The cruise ship hit a reef off the Italian coast in January 2012, and subsequently ran aground at Isola del Giglio, killing 32 people.
