Inspiring a nation of engineers: Australian Engineering Week 2013

August saw the completion of another year of Australian Engineering Week (AEW) across Engineers Australia Divisions around the country. The annual event is designed to highlight the many ways in which engineers impact society and to inspire school children to take up engineering as a serious career prospect. Events ranged from site visits and engineering competitions to technical workshops and presentations from established engineering companies. A small selection of the many programs are included below. AEW 2013 in Sydney was officially launched by Engineers Australia's national president Dr Marlene Kanga at the Harricks Address, which was held in the AGL Theatre at the Museum of Sydney. Kanga led a discussion on how an innovative culture can be developed and the importance of both engineering and new technology in commercialising innovations for the benefit of Australia and its economy.
