National bodies remove state inconsistencies

After more than five years of negotiations between the federal, state and territory governments, three new national regulators are to start operations in the coming months, removing the burden of inconsistent state laws and regulations around transport.As of last month, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and National Rail Safety Regulator commenced operations. The third national regulator, the existing Australian Maritime Safety Authority, will assume its greater regulatory responsibilities for all commercial vessels operating in Australian waters from March.
