Geoffrey Paul Youdale

Geoffrey Paul Youdale (1946 - 2014) was an eminent and honoured civil engineer who made ground-breaking contributions to pavement structural design. He was a co-author of the 1987 Austroads Guide to the Structural Design of Road Pavements, which introduced the mechanistic design method for flexible pavements based on elastic layer theory. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1968 and the University of New South Wales in 1973, Youdale was employed by the Department of Main Roads NSW (later the Roads and Traffic Authority) until his early retirement in 1995 owing to ill health.
