The $350 million transformation of South Australia's Port Pirie lead smelter is going ahead, which will transform it into an advanced metal processing and recovery facility. Nyrstar's board has given its approval pending finalisation of all agreements relating to the funding and support package. The project was initially announced by the company in 2012 to revitalise the 120 year old facility; on completion it should improve environmental performance and extend the facility's life by over 30 years.
