Solving insolvable problems

As the speed of change picks up, as global interconnectedness increases and our world becomes more complex, more and more of the problems we face will seem insolvable. In a fascinating video on big ideas, Robert Kegan, professor of education at Harvard University, tells us that unless we raise our levels of consciousness we will simply not be able to understand - let alone solve - emerging issues. He goes on to say that the more complex, multifaceted and higher levels of consciousness are rarely found in people before middle age. Interestingly he then tells us that we are entering an era when more middle aged people than ever will be alive on the planet at the same time. In other words at the very time we need individuals of higher consciousness, more of them are likely to be available. I was left wondering if this was an argument for grey power.
