The establishment of one of the world's largest observation wheels in Melbourne has had a bumpy ride, with media reports early in February indicating the new Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is having trouble shaking the ghosts of its predecessor, the Southern Star. The Melbourne Star stands 120m tall, comprising seven spokes that complete one rotation in 30 minutes. It carries 21 airconditioned cabins constructed in Japan, each able to accommodate 20 passengers. The cabins weigh 13t each and are 5.7m long by 4m wide, featuring floor to ceiling glass manufactured in Melbourne.
