TINY BUBBLES EARN INAUGURAL INNOVATION PRIZE

The Jameson Cell, used widely in mining and other industries, has helped its inventor take out the first Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation. Laureate Professor Graeme Jameson (pictured) from the University of Newcastle spent 20 years developing the cell before it was introduced to the marketplace in 1989. Since then, it has been particularly successful in the Australian coal industry for the recovery of fine coal that would otherwise go to waste. A report earlier this year estimated the value of export coal recovered by the Cell to the end of 2014 at over $36 billion.
