Revenue Grows in Green Markets

Just when every-one thought the end of the 20th Century would close the books on the environmental market, growth just refuses to go away. ENR's Top 200 Environmental Firms took quite a ride in 1999 on the coattails of the soaring global economy and its construction boom. Total revenue is up 6%, to nearly $28 billion. The red-hot U.S. market fueled just about all of that growth. The Top 200 domestic revenue reached a record $22.5 billion, up more than 9% from last year's total. International revenue fell, also by 9%, as firms found it hard to resist sure-bet markets right in their backyards. Even so, the Top 200 racked up $5.2 billion overseas, with revenue totals up in Canada, Asia/Australia, the Middle East and Africa (see story, p. 50).
