Bush Seeking Further Hike for Military Construction

Military construction would be one of the beneficiaries of President Bush's revised budget request for the Dept. of Defense. For DOD overall, Bush's new proposal is up $18.4 billion from the $310.5-billion "blueprint" he submitted in February. The latest version, released June 27, includes $10 billion for DOD construction, an increase of about $770 million from the detailed budget plan the administration issued in April. That $10-billion total is up more than $900 million, or 10%, from 2001 appropriations for DOD construction.
