The $2.6-billion redevelopment of Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport is rapidly consuming local labor, material and construction capability, and it is still more than a year from peak and six years from completion.rnThe project's centerpiece is a new horseshoe-shaped terminal that accounts for half of its cost. It will replace two outdated structures and be able to handle 50 million passengers a year. The terminal's first stage, set to open in 2003, will include rnthe main building, two passenger boarding piers and a connecting "liner." Two more piers will be built by 2007. The entire 130-gate terminal will cover an area equal to 50 football fields.
