As the world becomes increasingly focused on environmental concerns, design firms specializing in water, wastewater and remediation projects find themselves in hot demand. New technology and processes are driving markets for retrofits and upgrades on both private and public water and wastewater plants. At the same time, the demand for remediation work remains strong as manufacturers rush to clean up facilities and images. "Everyone keeps expecting to see a dip, but it hasn't happened yet," says Patrick Karney, global director of wastewater at CH2M Hill. "In wastewater plants, we are seeing a lot of work to renovate facilities that were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and more demand for membrane technology."
