Gas Line Requires Drilling

A Georgia coal-burning powerplant is in the process of converting to natural gas,rnrequiring 19 miles of pipeline. To get it through the landscape, the utility commissioned Michels Directional Crossings for horizontal directional drilling (HDD). In May, Michels began the process of drilling 19 crossings of 30-in. pipe through a 19-mile stretch of rock and soil. The rock encountered so far has been very hard granite and/or schist.
