ConnDOT Seeks Qualified Bidders New Haven Rail Yard Facilities Improvement Program

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) will advertise the Component Change Out Shop construction project (State Project No. 301 -0106) in late May or early June 2009, as part of the New Haven Rail Yard Facilities Improvement Program.rnThis is the first of several maintenance facilities planned for the New Haven Rail Yard to maintain the new fleet of multiple-unit electric rail cars in a coordinated campus. The new shop will be approximately 300,000 square feet with one targe ground floor with 13 car spots on three tracks, a mezzanine and three partial floors containing workshops, employee welfare facilities, and administrative offices. The shop contains large cranes, lifts and hoists to service the cars, a DC power system, and back shops to rebuild and test components. Sitework improvements consist of drainage, utilities, paving, fencing, site lighting, overhead catenary and associated work. The shop will be located on the edge of the current yard allowing independent access from off site.
