Delayed Action Could Bring Everything Down

President Obama faces enormous challenges during his administration, and establishing a new vision for America's infrastructure must be one of them. The current stimulus package allocates just over $64 billion to transportation infrastructure projects. Although this welcome funding can jump-start thousands of sidelined projects, create jobs and begin to address a massive maintenance backlog, the sobering truth is this major cash infusion will not reverse the serious issues that transportation infrastructure faces. We need a new plan. Waiting is not an option. The consequences of spot projects and delayed action are far greater than being stuck in traffic or late for supper. If our transportation system is allowed to fall into greater disrepair, it could bring everything down with it-our economy, our environment, our national security, our safety and our quality of life. That is why this isn't just another crisis.
