Construction Off to a Slow Start in 2010

Construction activity got off to a slow start in 2010 with growth slowing for the third consecutive month. The U.S. Dept. of Commerce's seasonally adjusted annual data for construction put-in-place last January was running at an annual clip of $884 billion. This total was down 0.6% from the previous month and down 4.3% from last October (see chart).rnNot seasonally adjusted, January's construction put-in-place data was down 11.2% from the previous months and down 11.5% from January 2009's level (see table).
