In today's world, with the heightened awareness of the threat of terrorist attack, a common system being applied to many federal government building projects is the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). Instituted by Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (HQUSACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE), this system provides planning, design, construction, sustainment, restoration, and modernization criteria and applies to the military departments, the defense agencies and other government buildings.rnWithin the UFC, section 4-023-03: Design of Buildings to Resist Progressive Collapse is critical to a building's structural design.
