Source: Crane Pick Hit Cracked Column Before Miami Collapse

The crane operator erecting a parking garage at Miami Dade College in Doral, Fla., "whacked" a previously cracked building column with a tilt-wall panel just prior to the structure's collapse on Oct. 10, according to an anonymous source with knowledge of the incident. Shortly afterward, project officials allegedly visually inspected the column and reported a vertical crack of 18 to 24 inches. After photographing the damage, they ordered work to resume.
