Since July 2012, St. Louis-based Spirtas Wrecking has been demolishing a rusting structure that has occupied six blocks of the city's Tucker Blvd. for over 80 years. The clearing of the site, funded in large part by a $i6.7-million federal grant, will provide St. Louis with a major downtown connection to a new bridge being built across the Mississippi River. The Tucker Blvd. district included the Illinois Terminal Railroad commuter line which ended under the former Globe-Democrat building which served as St. Louis's downtown rail station. With passenger service ending in 1958, the structure quickly began to deteriorate. Envirocon Demolishes a Uranium Conversion Facility in Oklahoma Envirocon recently added a complex radiological demolition project to its extensive demolition resume by completing the selective dismantlement and demolition of a uranium conversion facility in Gore, Oklahoma. The 6oo-acre site is southeast of Tulsa and located on the Illinois River. The demolition area encompasses the 85-acre process facility located within the site boundaries. Uranium processing operations at the site began in 1969 and in 1993 the owner terminated Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensed activities.
