There are not many new coal-fired power plants under construction or planned for the near future, but American Electric Power is close to completing a new one in Fulton, Ark. The 600-MW John W. Turk, Jr. Unit 1 "ultra-supercritical" coal-fired "clean- . coal" boiler will be fueled by Powder River Basin sub-bituminous coal with low ash and sulfur content. The coal will be brought in from Wyoming by three 125-car trains per week. The boiler is an opposed fired, spiral-wound, balanced-draft model.
