The $95O-million Gerald Desmond Bridge replacement project was selected as a 2012 Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan recipient. The new cable-stayed bridge will incorporate three lanes in each direction, emergency lanes on both sides and a 200-ft vertical clearance to accommodate modern ships. The bridge is designated as a National Highway System Intermodal Connector Route and part of the Federal Strategic Highway Network.
