There are currently 67,526 structurally deficient bridges and 76,363 functionally obsolete bridges in the country-a total of 143,889 or 23.7% of the nation's bridges that are classified as deficient. Considering that more than 26% of the nation's bridges were classified as deficient according to the ASCE 2009 Report Card, it's clear progress is being made.Andrew W.
