Montreal-based engineer SNC-Lavalin says it is investigating $35 million in payments that may have been improperly made and recorded in the fourth quarter of 2011, "documented to construction projects to which they did not relate," the firm said on Feb. 28. The firm says it is working with auditors to "resolve all issues." The firm also said it has recorded greater-than-expected 2011 losses on its Libya projects, which were halted by civil war there. On Feb. 9, the firm said it would dismiss two senior construction executives for reasons attributed to their conduct.
