Another Solar Manufacturer Seeks Bankruptcy Protection

Another solar product manufacturer, Energy Conversion Devices Inc., Auburn Hills, Mich., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection along with its subsidiaries United Solar Ovonic LLC, or USO, and Solar Integrated Technologies, Inc., or SIT. ECD says it plans to sell USO as well as its 39% stake in Ovonyx Inc. and other assets. The company also has sold its majority stake in Ovonic Battery Co., an advanced-battery technology firm, to BASF Corp. for $58 million.
